Knock Knock Booby Milk
A Psychologist’s Guide to Gently Reducing or Compassionately Ending your Breastfeeding Journey with a Toddler or Older Child
It doesn’t have to be difficult, and you don’t have to do it on your own

You’ve done an amazing job to get this far, and if it’s time to reduce or end your breastfeeding journey, then that’s ok.
There is only compassion and kindness here, with zero judgement and no pressure.
Most people have a complex mix of thoughts and feelings around reducing or ending breastfeeding.
I know I did.
I felt relief, regret, guilt and grief, alongside confusion about how best to go about it.

I couldn’t find what I needed, so I created it for myself, using my knowledge and skills as a child and family psychologist alongside trial and error of what worked for me and my kids.
Knock Knock Booby Milk gave me a playful, gentle way to explain what was happening and hold my boundaries.

It helped myself and my toddler navigate the path together, on the same team, keeping the connection and holding space for both my feelings and theirs.
Friends and family asked how we did it, so I started to share the approach.

They were amazed how much it helped and said I needed to share it wider.
So here it is, available for anyone who wants support on this complex journey.
Is Knock Knock Booby Milk right for me?
Are you breastfeeding a toddler or older child?
Would you like to gently reduce or compassionately end your breastfeeding journey?
Would you like support from a psychologist who’s been there, walked the path and found her way through – while keeping the connection with her child and holding space for all of the complexity along the way?
If yes, then you’re in the right place:
It doesn’t have to be difficult, and you don’t have to do it alone
Intro video from Dr Naomi Parsons:
“Reducing feeds went much smoother and easier than I was expecting. The approach really helped, thank you”

Through the Knock Knock programme, Dr Naomi Parsons gives you down-to-earth support and practical strategies based on solid psychological evidence.
Her approach is kind, friendly and well-grounded in psychological knowledge and skills
“Naomi is really kind and gentle, and she also really knows her stuff“
Sounds good, but what exactly will I get?
You’re tired, you’re busy, you don’t want to spend hours scrolling and trying out different ideas that may or may not work
You just want something simple and straightforward, something that works and most importantly, it’s gentle, compassionate and maintains the connection between you while also enabling you to hold the boundaries you need when you’re exhausted, stressed and overwhelmed.
There’s snot smeared in your shoulder and you’re long-overdue a shower (or maybe that’s just me 🤔)
I get it, and I promise this isn’t something to add another to-do-list on your plate.
There are 5 x 10-15 minute videos outlining the approach and supporting you through the whole process.
They’re friendly, easy to understand and give you a strategy to use straight away
You can go at your own pace, take what you need from it and revisit as often as you like
You can pause any time, giving you flexibility to fit around the busy-ness of life with little people
We’ll cover:
- A tried-and-tested step-by-step approach that you can start using straight away
- How to tell the story so your child understands what’s happening
- How to maintain the connection with your child throughout the process – no need to separate from them
- How to keep it gentle and playful
- How to hold space for your own thoughts and feelings, and your child’s
- Trouble-shooting when things don’t go to plan
- Celebrating how far you’ve come and everything you’ve achieved on your breastfeeding journey so far
- Acknowledging the complexities of breastfeeding and weaning
All of this is presented in a friendly and down-to-earth style, blending psychological expertise with real-life lived experience

About Dr Naomi Parsons

I’m a 40 something mum of 2 young girls and an experienced psychologist working with trauma, burnout, chronic illness, invisible disabilities and late-discovered neurodivergence.
I needed to end both of my daughter’s breastfeeding journeys around the age of 2/2.5, before either of us was really ready (for my eldest, I couldn’t sustain breastfeeding through a hyperemesis pregnancy and for my youngest I needed to go on medication that was incompatible with breastfeeding)
I experienced a huge range of emotions including guilt, relief and confusion about the best way to go about it
There was very little information available to support me and my children through the process and so I created my own approach, through trial and error, integrating my professional knowledge and my personal experience as a mum.
I managed to end both of my daughter’s breastfeeding journeys gently and compassionately (though of course I didn’t always get it right!)
Friends and colleagues started to ask how we did it, so I started to share and they said it was helpful.
Over time, I’ve developed the approach into a resource to share wider, so more parents and children can find the support they need
